Ingredients For Miso Corn Cobs
If you already have miso butter on hand, you can skip step of preparing it for the corn. If not, all you need are two ingredients to prepare this recipe for a flavor-packed, buttery spread!
There are different types of miso available, but our favorite kind to use is white miso paste. It’s a mild miso with a delicate flavor that doesn’t overpower the flavor of the butter.
Here’s a look at the ingredients you will need:
- Fresh corn. Use whichever corn on the cob variety you prefer.
- Unsalted butter. Make sure your butter is at room temperature so you can easily mix in the miso.
- White miso paste. You can often find this at large supermarkets (check the Asian foods aisle). If not, try a nearby Asian market, Trader Joe’s or Amazon. This should also be at room temperature in order to blend well with the unsalted butter.
That’s it! Since miso paste has a natural umami flavor and saltiness (similar to soy sauce), you don’t even need any extra salt in the miso butter.
This, of course, depends on your own taste preferences, but we recommend adding salt to taste when the corn is served.

Recipe Variations
Here are some creative twists on our classic recipe. Each recipe variation will complement the natural sweetness of corn with our rich miso butter sauce. You can even swap the cobs for corn kernels (either fresh or frozen kernels).
Corn with Spicy Miso Butter
Blend 1 teaspoon of Sriracha sauce or another chili paste into the spread. Slather the hot corn with the spicy condiment and garnish with toasted sesame seeds.
Sweet and Savory Miso Butter Recipe:
Combine 1 teaspoon of honey or maple syrup for a touch of sweetness. Brush the sweet and savory spread over the hot corn and finish with a sprinkle of crushed nori seaweed.
Citrus Zest Miso Butter Grilled Corn:
Add the zest of one lime or lemon to brighten up the flavors. Make some grilled corn instead of boiling it. Next slather grilled corn with this citrusy miso spread and serve with a wedge of the zested lime or lemon for an extra zing that goes well with the charred flavor.
Recipe Tips for Success
- We like to boil our corn but you don’t have to! This miso spread can be enjoyed over corn that is grilled, oven roasted, steamed or even microwaved.
- If you are boiling the corn, a little salt in the water helps season the corn as it cooks. However, keep in mind that the salt content in miso is fairly high so you most likely will not need to add any extra salt to the miso spread.
- If you have leftovers, store the corn cobs and the buttery miso blend separately. Both should go in an airtight container in the fridge. The corn will be good 3-4 days and the miso spread will last up to 2 weeks.
