Why you’ll love this Texas garlic toast recipe:
- with just seven simple ingredients required, it’s a breeze to prep
- it’s easy to modify, and we’ll walk you through three different cooking methods
- Texas Toast is a versatile and delicious side dish.
Ingredients for Texas Toast Garlic Bread
Just seven ingredients is all you’ll need to make homemade Texas garlic toast! For the best results, try to use Texas Toast sandwich bread. It’s usually sliced about 3/4-inches thick.
However, if you can’t find it at your grocery store, any thickly sliced sandwich bread will also work just fine.
And, of course, you can always purchase an unsliced loaf of white bread and slice it yourself at home. If you are feeling inspired, make your own homemade bread.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe:
- butter, softened to room temperature
- grated Parmesan cheese
- chopped fresh parsley
- garlic cloves, minced
- garlic powder
- salt
- thick white sandwich bread (we used Texas Toast sandwich bread but other brands work)
- grated Mozzarella or Colby cheese (optional, if you’d like a cheesy Texas Toast!)
Our Texas Toast Recipe
We’re sharing all the details for how to make Texas Toast garlic bread using three different cooking methods!
Whether you prefer the oven, a hot skillet (or grill), or even Texas Toast in the air fryer, this simple recipe is easy to adapt based on the cooking method of your choice.
Here’s a quick look at how to make it, but be sure to view the printable recipe card at the bottom of the page to check out all of the Texas Toast instructions.
Combine the butter, Parmesan, parsley, garlic, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl. Mash it together until it forms a smooth paste. Slather the butter mixture on both sides of each piece of bread.
Texas Toast in the Oven
If you’re toasting it in the oven, first preheat your oven to 375°F. Place the prepared bread slices on a baking sheet.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, then flip them and bake another few minutes or until the bread slices are golden brown. If you’d like a cheesy Texas Toast, sprinkle the bread pieces with grated Mozzarella or Colby cheese and bake another couple of minutes to allow the cheese to melt.
Air Fryer Texas Toast
Prep the pieces of bread with the butter mixture, then place the pieces into the air fryer.
Cook at 350°F for 3-4 minutes or until the toast is golden brown. If using cheese, add it at the end and return the toast pieces to the oven for another 1-2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
Grilled Texas Toast
Making Texas Toast on the stovetop or grill is another quick method. First, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Place each prepped piece of bread in the hot skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
If you’re adding cheese to the bread, simply sprinkle it on at the end and then cover the skillet with a lid. All it takes is about 30-60 seconds for the cheese to melt.
If using an outdoor grill, place the toast pieces directly onto the grill grates and cook for 1 to 3 minutes on each side.
Serve this garlic bread alongside our shrimp pasta or stuffed pasta shells for a delicious meal.

Yum! just tried this recipe last night I prepped the butter spread the day before. I found it to be delicious! My daughter thought it could use a little less garlic and parsley . I let her know that when she invites me over she can experiment around with the amount of garlic she would like. Your current recipe is the one that I'm saving in my recipe card index. Thank you for sharing!
