Why you’ll love this Buffalo Chicken Dip

Cream cheese, tender shreds of chicken, and delicious seasonings and herbs make the base of this chicken buffalo dip. Sour cream and Worcestershire sauce give it an extra tang, while the buffalo hot sauce brings home the flavor!

We don’t stop there with the cheese, either. Cheddar and blue cheese give this buffalo chicken dip extra yum! Baked until bubbly, the cheese is melty and perfect. A staple of any good game-day dip.

You can use your favorite store-bought buffalo sauce if you’re in a hurry, otherwise, we recommend our Buffalo Sauce Recipe for a flavorful homemade version.

Our creamy buffalo cheese dip is:

  • cheesy, creamy and oh so flavorful
  • incredibly easy to make
  • less than 10 ingredients
  • ready in 30 minutes
  • gluten-free and low-carb

Serve this dip with chips, celery sticks, carrot sticks, and slices of baguette bread. We also like adding a dish of homemade ranch dressing to serve alongside the hot dip.

How to Make Buffalo Chicken Dip:

Our buffalo chicken dip is so simple to make and you can whip it up in just a few minutes! This buffalo chicken dip recipe requires cooked, shredded chicken, which means it’s a great way to use up leftover roasted chicken.

Here’s how to make it:

  1. Mix the cream cheese: Mix the cream cheese until it is smooth and lump-free.
  2. Stir and bake: Stir in the rest of the ingredients and bake.
  3. Top and serve: Sprinkle with additional cheese and melt in the oven before diving in with some tortilla chips.

This buffalo chicken dip recipe makes enough for 10-12 servings. If you’d like a double batch, prepare it according to the instructions but place the dip in a 13×9-inch baking dish instead.

Tips for Success:

Use the right kind of cream cheese. Get the type of cream cheese that comes in a block. Avoid the stuff that comes in tubs and stays spreadable when it is cold. You will also get better results if you use full fat cream cheese.

For the shredded chicken, the easiest route is to grab a rotisserie chicken at the grocery store. You can even cook a frozen chicken breast in the Instant Pot or use leftover grilled chicken.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do you store buffalo chicken dip?

Transfer any leftover chicken dip into a storage container with a lid. Cover, then store in the refrigerator for three to four days. To reheat, warm in the microwave or place it in an oven-safe dish and bake at 300°F until warm.

What do you put in Buffalo chicken dip?

We love the combination of cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and sour cream. The sour cream (and the Worcestershire) gives it a special tanginess and also lightens up the dip. Ranch seasoning and fresh chives add a whole lot more flavor to this chicken buffalo dip recipe. So does the blue cheese (skip it if you’re not a fan).

Why is my buffalo chicken dip liquid?

Using a tub of spreadable cream cheese instead of block cheese can make the dip too thin. It can also be thin if your ratios are off i.e. too much buffalo sauce and not enough cheese or chicken. If it appears a bit runny, simply stir in a little more sour cream or shredded chicken to thicken it up.

What is Buffalo sauce made of?

Buffalo sauce is simply a hot sauce (like Frank’s) combined with a few seasonings and butter. That’s what gives it a creamy consistency and a rich flavor that is irresistible!

This easy buffalo chicken dip recipe is perfect for your next gathering and a perfect accompaniment with chicken wings. It’s bold, creamy and rich, and undeniably delicious smeared onto any type of dipping vessel you choose to serve it with!
