Ingredients

For the Pizza Sauce:

  • 1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herb mix

For the Pizza:

  • 1 (14 inch) pre-baked thin pizza crust (such as Stone-Fire)
  • ½ pound ground Italian sausage bulk, not links
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves torn
  • 4 ounces Mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup Kalamata olives halved
  • 2 ounces Parmesan cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoons chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450°F

For the Pizza Sauce:

  • Add all the ingredients to a small dish, stir to combine and set aside.

For the Pizza:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high.  Add the ground sausage and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up into crumbles with a fork, about 5-7 minutes.  Use a slotted spoon to transfer the sausage to a small dish.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté to a light golden brown, about 5 minutes.  Transfer the onions to a separate dish or plate.

To Assemble the Pizza:

  • Place the pre-baked pizza on a pizza stone, pizza pan or a baking sheet.
  • Spread ⅓ of the pizza sauce over the crust to within ½-inch of the edge.
  • Distribute ½ of the crumbled sausage over the sauce.
  • Cut the Provolone cheese slices in half and cover the sausage.
  • Distribute the onions over the Provolone and sprinkle with the torn basil leaves.
  • Add the remaining sausage over the basil.
  • Add the shredded Mozzarella cheese over the basil leaves and Distribute the sliced Kalamata olives on the cheese.
  • Cover the olives with the shredded Parmesan cheese.
  • Transfer the pizza to the middle of the oven and bake for 6-8 minutes until the cheese is melted and beginning to brown.
  • Transfer from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley, slice and enjoy!

Notes

  • The pizza sauce is a thick and easy and will make enough sauce for two 14-inch pizzas.
  • If adding additional toppings to the pizza consider using half of the sausage to prevent an over-thick filling.
  • Do not over-bake the pizza, when the cheese has fully melted and beginning to turn golden, it is done.
