Pizza night is fast and easy with our Sausage and Onion Pizza! we are using a pre-baked thin pizza crust and add our own thick pizza sauce. Sausage and onions are among our favorite toppings along with fresh basil and three varieties of cheese.
1 (14 inch)pre-bakedthin pizza crust (such as Stone-Fire)
½poundground Italian sausagebulk, not links
1large onionsliced
8slicesProvolone cheese
1cupfresh basil leavestorn
4ouncesMozzarella cheeseshredded
1cupKalamata oliveshalved
2ouncesParmesan cheeseshredded
1tablespoonschopped parsley
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°F
For the Pizza Sauce:
Add all the ingredients to a small dish, stir to combine and set aside.
For the Pizza:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Add the ground sausage and cook until no longer pink, breaking it up into crumbles with a fork, about 5-7 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the sausage to a small dish.
Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sauté to a light golden brown, about 5 minutes. Transfer the onions to a separate dish or plate.
To Assemble the Pizza:
Place the pre-baked pizza on a pizza stone, pizza pan or a baking sheet.
Spread ⅓ of the pizza sauce over the crust to within ½-inch of the edge.
Distribute ½ of the crumbled sausage over the sauce.
Cut the Provolone cheese slices in half and cover the sausage.
Distribute the onions over the Provolone and sprinkle with the torn basil leaves.
Add the remaining sausage over the basil.
Add the shredded Mozzarella cheese over the basil leaves and Distribute the sliced Kalamata olives on the cheese.
Cover the olives with the shredded Parmesan cheese.
Transfer the pizza to the middle of the oven and bake for 6-8 minutes until the cheese is melted and beginning to brown.
Transfer from the oven, sprinkle with chopped parsley, slice and enjoy!
Notes
The pizza sauce is a thick and easy and will make enough sauce for two 14-inch pizzas.
If adding additional toppings to the pizza consider using half of the sausage to prevent an over-thick filling.
Do not over-bake the pizza, when the cheese has fully melted and beginning to turn golden, it is done.
