Texas Toast Garlic Bread

A thick slice of garlic bread made with Texas toast sandwich bread.

Full of garlic-y flavor and served piping hot, this homemade Texas Toast bread is the best accompaniment to any meal! It's so simple to make and is the perfect spin on classic garlic bread.

We kicked up the flavor a notch by adding grated Parmesan cheese to the garlic butter spread. This is better than store-bought Texas toast.

Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 13 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons butter (1 stick), softened
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 5 to 6 cloves of garlic, minced (1-1/2 teaspoons)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 slices thick white sandwich bread**
  • Optional: 1/2 cup grated Mozzarella or Colby cheese

Instructions

  1. Combine the butter, Parmesan, parsley, garlic, garlic powder, and salt in a small bowl and mash together until it is a smooth paste.
  2. Slather the butter on both sides of the bread slices.

Oven Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. Place the buttered bread slices on a baking sheet. (You will need to do two batches if you have a small baking sheet).
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes then flip them over and bake for 4 to 6 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. If desired, sprinkle with grated Mozzarella or Colby cheese and bake for 2 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Air Fryer Texas Toast

  1. Place the buttered bread in the air fryer. Set the air fryer to 360°F and cook for 6 to 8 minutes or until golden brown. Flip the bread and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on the other side.
  2. If desired, sprinkle with grated Mozzarella or Colby cheese and cook at 350° for 1 to 2 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Grilled Texas Toast

  1. Heat a skillet over medium high heat. Place the buttered bread in the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
  2. Sprinkle with Mozzarella cheese, if desired and cover the skillet with a lid for 30 to 60 seconds until the cheese melts.
  3. You can also place the bread slices directly on the grill grates of an outdoor grill and grill for 1 to 3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Notes

.

  • Texas Toast sandwich bread is sliced 3/4 inches thick. If you can’t find Texas Toast bread, any thick thickly sliced sandwich bread will work. Optionally, you can purchase an unsliced loaf of bread and and slice it yourself.
  • Let the butter soften to room temperature so it can incorporate well with the other ingredients and spread evenly on the bread.
  • Store leftovers in a resealable plastic bag for 3 to 4 days on the counter. You can also freeze Texas toast for three months (keep it in an airtight container).
